The new SIMATIC Panel PC 677 family with
     - highest performance in a very compact design 
     - highest system availability
     - new front models
is hereby released for delivery. 

Effective immediately, all 12" and 15" models are available for delivery. Starting mid-May, the 19" touchscreen models will become available as well.

The new SIMATIC Panel PC 677 is the consequent continuation and innovation of today's successful Panel PC 670. Compared to its predecessor, the list price was lowered considerably and at the same time the basic equipment enhanced.
 

New:	- Highest performance provided by the latest Intel Pentium Mobile processors (comparable to a Pentium 4, 3 GHz class) - Fronts in new SIMATIC HMI design and with USB 2.0 interface - Also available as 19" touchscreen model
Proven:	- Very compact design that maintains 2 free PCI slots  - Long-term component availability (3 - 4 years of active marketing followed by an additional 5 years of compatible replacement parts availability and service) - Mounting-compatible with the Panel PC 670
Lower Price and enhanced Basic Equipment/Options:	- Compared to the preceding Panel PC 670, the base list price has been lowered - Standard 256 MB of RAM (previously 128 MB in the Panel PC 670)  - No-cost, optional DC 24 V power supply - Optional DVD-ROM drive for the price of the prior CD-ROM drive

- 2nd generation Intel Pentium M technology and Mobile Intel 915 GM Express chipset
- Intel Celeron M 370 1.5 GHz as value processor (standard equipment)

The operating units of the Panel PC 677 come in a new, appealing industrial design. All fronts possess a front-mounted, integrated USB 2.0 interface, e.g. for connecting external control components and mass storage devices. The cover of the USB interface is designed extremely rugged and thus meets all requirements according to IP65 and NEMA 4.

Expected in Q3/2005, the fronts will also be available with sealed USB 2.0 interface. In this version, the interface is permanently closed. This ensures that no unwanted USB devices are plugged into the built-in Panel PC.   

Hardware Equipment can be expanded through Options
- DVD-ROM drive or CD-RW/DVD combo drive
- AC 110/230 V worldwide power supply or DC 24 V power supply
- SATA hard disk drives: 40 GB or 80 GB
- 2 x 60 GB hard disk drive module for implementing a RAID 1 mirrored HDD system

Highest System Availability
- Shock-absorbing and vibration-absorbing suspension of the hard disk drive module
- Vibration/shock resistance up to 1 g/5 g
- CF cards, e.g. for data backup or archiving purposes, can be inserted afterwards 
- Onboard, integrated RAID 1controller (no additional PCI card required anymore) -> for implementing a mirrored hard disk drive system in conjunction with the vibration-dampening dual hard disk drive module

Continuity and Availability of long-term System Concepts
- Active Panel PC 677 marketing phase for at least 3 - 4 years
- Following that, availability of compatible replacement parts for an additional 5 years 

Migration
- In the medium-term, the Panel PC 677 will be replacing today's Panel PC 670. 
- The utilization of innovative PC technology on the PC 677 prohibits an image and interface compatibility with the PC 670. Because of this, a longer side-by-side marketing period has been planned for the migration of existing customers

Note: Remote-Mount Configuration
- It will also possible with the SIMATIC Panel PC 677 to separate the computing unit and the operating unit by up to 20 m.   

- Different from the PC 670, this option will no longer be orderable through the Panel PC Configurator. 

- A "Remote Kit" expansion component will be made available that can be ordered separately. Any Panel PC 677 can be retrofitted with this expansion. 

- The remote kit will incorporate new technology and be priced much more attractively than the previous concept. 

- Specific technical data, delivery form, etc. will be provided in a separate SIMATIC Update.  

- The delivery start of this expansion is planned for July 2005.

Note: Packages with SIMATIC HMI Software
The SIMATIC Panel PC 677 will also be offered packaged with SIMATIC HMI software (attractive price advantage when simultaneously ordering a SIMATIC Panel PC together with SIMATIC HMI software): 
- In conjunction with WinCC V6.0 SP3 or higher
- In conjunction with WinCC flexible 2005
Following the release of the HMI software, these packages will run under Windows XP Prof. SP2. 
We will inform you as soon as these packages become available. 

Please also note
For the Panel PC 677, there will no longer be packages in conjunction with ProTool/Pro or WinCC V5.x! 

Note: Direct Key Module
The direct key module is intended for use in conjunction with the SIMATIC Panel PC 670, 677, 870 or 877 (for models with integrated membrane keyboard only). With this module, digital events can be assigned to the function keys and softkeys (F1 - F20 and S1 - S16) of the membrane keyboard. Thus, a digital input of a PLC can be controlled by a keystroke via PROFIBUS. The module is implemented as a PROFIBUS DP slave.       

With the direct key module, the functionality of the SIMATIC Panel PC is expanded by the following properties:   
- Up to 32 function keys/softkeys of the Panel PC's membrane keyboard can be queried as direct keys. 
- Up to 16 additional keys from an external control panel can be connected if required.  
- 16 digital outputs are available for controlling feedback indicator lamps (by the PLC via PROFIBUS DP) in possibly existing external control panels. All direct keys can be queried by the PLC via PROFIBUS DP.     

Note: Releases in Conjunction with SIMATIC WinAC
The SIMATIC Panel PC 677 has been tested in conjunction with SIMATIC WinAC products
- SIMATIC WinAC Basis V4.1 SP1 has been tested and released / in conjunction with SIMATIC NET CD Edition 2005 (V6.3) or higher
 - SIMATIC WinAC Slot V3.4 SP1 has been tested and released / in conjunction with SIMATIC NET CD Edition 2005 ( V6.3) or higher
 - SIMATIC WinAC RTX V4.1 SP1 is not released for use on the Panel PC 677 (a release is planned for WinAC RTX 2005)
